Art Deco 1930s Drinks Cocktail Cabinet, Grey and Silver

We love the classic elegance of this 1930s cocktail cabinet.  It is beautifully compact with lovely Deco styling. 
 
The veneer was damaged beyond repair and so we painted the cabinet in a deep charcoal grey, which works so well with the original 1930s chrome handles.  We have added layers of a matt varnish to give added protection.  The top pull down section has 2 replacement mirrors as the orginals were very worn and damaged.  The walnut veneer here was in a good condition, so we have left unpainted and added varnish to give it protection.  We bought new cocktail sticks for the cocktail holders. The base has a textured grey/black vinyl which is easy to wipe clean and works well with the grey of the cabinet.  The lower cupboard section has been painted in the same charcoal grey as the outside.  There is a fixed shelf and underneath that are some fixed bottle holders.  There is additional storage space in front of the bottle holders.  We loved the Deco feet on this cabinet and have painted them with a silver pigment and added a black glaze to give added depth and more of an aged look.

We are always delighted to be able to rescue and refinish beautiful, good quality, vintage, furniture. We lavish them with care and attention, clean them thoroughly and breathe new life into them, but we can't make them look like new - and we don't want to! These are character items and their imperfections are an integral part of their story. As a vintage piece from the 1930s it does show signs of use and age, but these do not detract from its style and practicality. There are some dinks and areas of wear to the wood, as you would expect from a cabinet that is over 80 years old, but there is plenty of life left in this gorgeous piece.   There is some gapping to the top right corner of the top pull down section, which we have shown in the photos.  One of the hinges has its bottom finial missing - again we have included a picture of this.  There is some wear to the chrome on the handles.  Please note that you can see the grain of the wood beneath the paint. If you are looking for an off the shelf, mass produced, item with a perfect factory finish, this isn't the cabinet for you, but if you want a special and unique one-off, that you definitely won't find anywhere else - you've found your perfect match!
